                                                                       ** DAKARI **

DAKARI (prounounced Da-kar'-e) ..... (Thank you Liz!!!)

Dakari is one of the foundation dogs of the Aatu Tamaskan.

Dakari is born of a gorgeous wolf grey female and red grey male, which should make his future offspring absolutely incredible specimens, especially with the pedigree and coloring of our breeding females.

PERSONALITY/TEMPERMANT:  Dakari is my little laid back man (I call him "Little Man").  He is the just hang out type.  He loves to be pet, cuddled, belly rubbed ... you name it! He is a magician, though, and hates to be alone, although he does not suffer from separation anxiety.  When he was little and blocked in his room, in about 5 days, he learned how to climb a single baby gate, so I bought a second.  Well, not much later, as he grew, he learned how to climb and jump both (that's at least 4 feet high).  So, we had to rig something up with a base and put the gates about 5 feet high, and also put plywood so he couldn't grab the rungs.  He, however, has never been destructive.  When I started leaving him in the house by himself, he was happy just to not be locked in a room and was content to hang out and sleep.  He was also very easily paper trained and then potty trained.  I left 2 puppy pads in his room for emergencies (it took him awhile to figure out to come get me if he had to go potty, so he would go in his room on the paper if I wasn't right there to let him out).  He only ever messed in my house three times, and they were my fault for not paying attention.  When I started to take him to the sandbox to go potty (when I got him), it took him about 3-4 days to know the back area of the yard was the potty area.  There is a large 10x20 sandbox on their side of the yard.  When he was still very small, he couldn't figure out that he had to go around the fence to get to the box, but he would go to the back of the yard on the opposite side of the fence and box and go potty.  So, he knew the vicinity, just not how to get to the box.  VERY easy to train.  He was also easier to crate train and never as freak-outish in the crate as Takeia.  And I got him at 10 weeks (Takeia was 7 weeks).   Dakari is more verbal with barks, but still very rare.

He is VERY smart, and everything I hoped for!!!  He has always travelled well in the car and has only gotten sick once (when he was much smaller).  I made sure to take him almost everywhere with me in the car from the time I got him.  He is calm and loving, and everything I hoped he would be.  He does carry his tail a little higher and more curved than I'd like, but otherwise is a perfect specimen!

My "Little Man" ... aint so little no more!

Dakari has come from one of the founders of the Tamaskan Dog, ALBA in Scotland www.albatamaskans.com.  Dakari will also mate with our future female (whose name I am keeping secret right now).

11/17/09 - Dakari is quickly approaching 12 months old.  He will be scheduled for his hip testing (PennHIP and preliminary OFA) in the not so distant future.

8/27/09 - I so love my 'Little Man'.  He is such a love bug!  He will definitely be my protector.  He loves affection, and when it's been a busy day and I haven't spent enough time with him (by his standards ), he comes and finds me, sits at my side and just puts his head in my hand.  He travels so easily and just sleeps the ride away.  He is very well proportioned and growing nicely.  He will definitely be a big boy, as he already stands close to TAkeia at the shoulder, but is not as long ... and he's not quite 9 months old.  He has a head like his grandfather (Magnus of Alba), with a nice stop and smaller ears than Takeia had.  Unfortunately, his tail has curled more than hoped, despite it being straight as a small puppy (only so much you can do).  So, with the Aatu Tamaskan, we will look to breed this trait out through selective breeding with dogs with better tail carriage.  Otherwise, I have NO complaints about him at all!!!!!

4/13/09  Dakari is growing beautifully.  He has such big paws (like Takeia did) there's no doubt he's going to be big.  He has such a calm demeanor (much different than Takeia ever did).  So, it's a nice balance between the two.  He has not attempted to destroy anything at all in the house.  He plays with his toys and bones.  There were a few times he got out of his room and roamed the house while I was gone, and when I came home, he hadn't even messed or chewed anything.  (And my house really is not child/dog-proofed ... tassles, glass, plants, etc., so I was very pleased.)  He got on the couch a couple of times (a no-no in my book) but after reprimanding, he has not done so in a couple of weeks.  I am also pleased that he holds his tail lower and straighter than Takeia, so we will probably be able to breed out the higher/ curlier tail in future pups from these lines.

His color is changing, as they all do.  But, I am very happy that he will be a nice wolfy-grey.  His overcoat is so grey that it almost looks a dark blue (not black like Takeia's looked).  And his mask is really defined.  He's going to be gorgeous!!!
